Closer Look: Green Glyphs Oracle
over 1 year ago – Tue, Oct 11, 2022 at 01:54:09 PM

Since we're deciding on what Oracle card will be turned into a free rainbow foil print for the next stretch goal, now seems like a good time to do a deep dive into the Oracle deck!

The Green Glyphs Oracle is a set of 50 oracle cards. These cards can be used on their own for daily readings or mixed into other Green Glyphs decks. There are no set rules to this Oracle, so it can be used with the reader’s intuition. If you’re unfamiliar, an Oracle deck is simply a deck of cards that deviates from the traditional systems of divination. All of the cards in this deck are unique and do not draw from any set of divination cards.

I created this deck as a reflection on the repeating cycles we find in life. This Oracle is inspired by the idea that all aspects of everyday life, big and small, find themselves in the day-to-day. These images are a mixture of strange and familiar things, many of which will conjure up meanings at first sight.

I want this deck to exist as your companion, without fears of the dark cards revealing your subconscious needs. This deck can be used as a tool to highlight what needs attention, things that may ask you to take pause and appreciate, or reflect on how integral (or not) these aspects are in your daily life. We easily can fall into routines that make the magical parts of our lives feel mundane. Our freedoms, our experiences, our morning coffee. They are all things that after a while become washed out by anxieties and worries and are cast aside as universally trivial. Instead, let’s find gratitude for these small parts of life.

Celebrate, rejoice, and appreciate that even if your life may not feel like a movie, you are walking through life each day with the infinite choices that came before this moment to get you right here. And that is something special.

How can this deck be integrated with other Green Glyphs Decks?

Any of the Green Glyphs Oracle cards can be integrated on their own into another deck of your choice. Say you like the energy of Pig and want it in your Tarot deck. You can shuffle this in with your next readings. If  Pig shows up in a Tarot spread, allow it to offer playful relief from the messy things in life.

Where does this imagery come from?

Many of the cards in this deck came from my own universe of symbolism. For example, you will find many gazebos scattered throughout my work. I use gazebos as a symbol of celebration and appreciation for the present. Other cards in this deck came to me spontaneously. Some I meditated on; some arrived without notice. There were originally more cards in this deck. Some I loved, but just didn’t fit with the rest. The editing phase is one of the most crucial parts of creating a deck. I tend to make more at the beginning of the process and then remove cards as the deck comes to a close. What remains in this deck are the strongest and most balanced cards.

Why don’t these cards have key colors like the rest of the Green Glyphs Collection?

In the other Green Glyphs decks, I use color as a key for understanding the impact of a card as either positive or unfortunate. I chose not to include color in this deck because I didn’t want to impose any previous connotations on the imagery. I want the images and cards to be moldable to the reader. Whatever connotations you may have with the imagery in the deck are important to how the cards are read.

Can these cards be read with reversed meanings?

Yes! I have included keywords for reversed meanings in the guidebook. For experienced readers, this will allow deeper readings with twice as many meanings. If it feels too overwhelming to include reversals in your initial readings, then I would recommend sticking to only upright meanings. You will still be able to get the full experience.

Here's a look at the full set of Oracle cards:

Stretch Goal Sneak Peek & Live Unboxing
over 1 year ago – Mon, Oct 10, 2022 at 03:32:30 PM

My team and I had a long meeting about stretch goals today. There are some really cool and exciting ideas we've been thinking about (with thanks to all of your input!!) Nothing is set in stone yet, but we have a good idea of what's to come...

I'm not going to announce them all right away (what fun is that?) but I can tell you about the next few we have coming up. The majority of the stretch goals we have decided on will be freebies but there are a few that will be add-on items (like our next goal). I try to build as much as I can into pledges for free, but sometimes it's not feasible.

Our next goal:

At 300,000 we will unlock satchels!

This will likely be 4 new satchels designed specifically for each deck. They can be added individually or purchased as a set of 4 for a discount.

This is a mock-up image, fabric is limited to colors available and will match the decks as best possible

Some upcoming stretch goal freebies:

5 EXTRA ORACLE CARDS making it a deck of 55 cards. This will upgrade the oracle deck to a 55-card deck! The Oracle Guidebook and the Glossary will be updated to include these cards and meanings

9 EXTRA RUNE CARDS covering the Anglo-Saxon runes. This will upgrade the rune deck to a 33-card deck! The Rune Guidebook and Glossary will be updated to include these cards and meanings

FREE PRINTS (size tbd) - likely screenprinted and come free with all box set pledges.  Which cards do you want to see turned into prints?? Let me know below!

YES/NO COIN - something similar to our Cosma Visions coin.

Some things I am excited about but still need to figure out logistics on:

THE PENDULUM - I looove this idea, it was suggested several times. I think a metal pendulum with glyphs engraved into it could look really elegant, but I still need to do more research on this...

BUILD YOUR OWN DIORAMA - This idea was something I wanted to do from the start of this project. I think it would be really neat to offer a set of interchangeable backdrops and pop-out perforated figures and things from the green glyphs collection. Sort of a way to interact with the display box...more on this later.

GREEN GLYPHS GEOMANCY CARDS - I've wanted to make the set of 16 Geomantic figures as Green Glyphs cards for months but I've been on the fence about this idea... what are your thoughts? My idea behind this is that Green Glyphs is meant to be a bridge between different forms of divination, so why not include one of my favorites?

I'm going to gather my thoughts and assemble the full list but I wanted to offer a little glimpse before that happens...there's a lot more to come so please keep sharing the project with your communities!

I will be doing a live unboxing of the collection tomorrow:

At 5pm Pacific Time on my Instagram @james.r.eads.art as well as the @prismavisions instagram at the same time.

There will be a second unboxing on Tiktok later that night at 8 pm Pacific Time. If you're unable to attend either I will try to post the unboxing afterward on youtube.

Just a head's up: Early Bird Box set pledge tier will close on Thursday, October 6th at 12 Noon Pacific Time. After that what is now only $150 will cost $165. Box sets will likely retail after the campaign for $180, so now is the time to secure an early bird set!

PS here's a video I made on the making of the rune dice:

Closer Look: Green Glyphs Tarot
over 1 year ago – Mon, Oct 10, 2022 at 03:31:37 PM

Before we get into this Closer Look at the tarot deck I have a couple of quick updates:

  •  You can now add a 2nd Box Set at the early bird price in the add-ons. The Early Bird Box Set tier will close tomorrow at 12 PM Pacific Time. After this Box Sets will be priced at $165!
  •  We've added a bit more inventory for Gilded Lily Pins and Sticker Sheets. These will likely not be made again so this is the last of the last. You can also find these in the add-on menu after you select your shipping country. You can access the add-on menu by clicking "manage my pledge"
  •  I will be doing a live unboxing on Instagram TODAY at 5pm Pacific Time. I will be doing another on TikTok at 8pm Pacific Time!

And now without further ado, Green Glyphs Tarot!

The Green Glyphs Tarot is a deck of 78 cards that follows the meanings of the traditional Tarot system. If you are new to Tarot, this is an excellent deck to begin with as the cards are color-coded based on the positive or negative aspects of the card. Cards with a large presence of yellows and golds are generally uplifting and cards with orange are unfortunate.

A Tarot deck is split into two parts: the major and minor arcana. The deck begins with the major arcana, a group of 22 cards that explore the fool’s journey and the cyclical nature of life. I created the major arcana as one continuous panorama image. Each card "connects" to the card before it, with the final card, The World, connecting back to the fool. Because, well, as I like to say "at the end is the beginning again".

The minor arcana is comprised of 56 cards split into 4 different suits. Typically the suits are as follows: Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. In the Green Glyphs Tarot deck, the four suits are nearly the same with the exception of Pentacles replaced by stones. Initially, I struggled with creating the suit of Pentacles. I've never connected with this suit, even with Prisma Visions it was the one that took me the longest. Every time I approached the suit, I got stuck-- it felt like it was out of place from the rest of the deck. So I let go of control and let my mind wander. I pulled stones from the earth aspects of Pentacles and worked them into a suit of their own.

Like the major arcana, each of the minor arcana suits tells a story. I created these stories to not only add a second layer to the meanings in each card but also as a learning tool for new Tarot readers.

The suit of Wands tells the story of how humans found magic:

The suit of Cups tells the story of how elephants came to carry water:

The suit of swords tells the story of how the sun and moon created the stars:

The suit of stones tells the story of how the sea formed the land:

Tarot can be read by anyone. There are many misconceptions about Tarot and divination that I attempt to overcome with the decks that I create. Tarot can be an amazing tool for meditation, self-reflection, and healing. It can be used sparingly for the big questions or used daily for affirmations and reminders. Reading Tarot is not something you learn in a day, but is a practice that you spend a lifetime improving and deepening.

A Tarot deck is an object that should be treasured and even regarded as an extension of yourself. The card meanings are vague enough that they can be adapted to any situation. Tarot is infinite, and no two readings are really ever the same.

Our First Stretch Goal: Rune Dice
over 1 year ago – Tue, Oct 04, 2022 at 10:12:30 AM

Gosh, we already made it here?! We surpassed our first stretch goal!!

My expectations have been exceeded already. Thank you all so much for your enthusiasm on our first day of the campaign.

These bronze metal eight-sided dice will now be included with the Green Glyphs Rune boxes for free! Each die has 8 different runes engraved into the metal. They're super weighty and really nice quality.

Dice will be FREE with all rune decks, whether in a box set or not. You'll also now find these dice in the add-on menu. Dice can also now be added to your pledge in the add-on menu for $10 if you want an extra set or if you are not getting a rune deck.

I loooooved hearing everyone's ideas on stretch goals yesterday. My team and I spent a while brainstorming ideas well before the campaign launch but there were so many good ones that came up yesterday that we didn't consider. The wheels are spinning,  and I'll announce the upcoming stretch goals soon, but in the meantime, I want to hear more from you! Any other stretch goal fantasies? Was there something from yesterday's suggestions that you LOVED and want to see happen? Let me know below!

I think this would be a good time to do a closer look at the Green Glyphs Rune deck:

First on our Closer Look series is the Green Glyphs Rune deck, my take on the Elder Futhark Runes, a system of divination that has been around for millennia. Typically, runes are found in the form of stones, dice, talismans, or other objects with carvings. When I first started to learn about runes, I found it difficult to relate the Nordic symbol to the meaning. To help myself better understand the meanings behind each rune, I created this deck of cards. Each card has a runic symbol, the traditional name, and an image that encompasses the meaning behind the symbol.

The 24 runes are split into 3 Aett’s (or families) said to be ruled over by the Nordic Gods Frey, Hagal and Tyr. Frey’s Aett is the first set of 8 runes in the Elder Futhark. These runes deal with wealth, challenges, misfortunes, messages, journeys, illumination, exchanges, and joy:

Hagal’s Aett is the second set of 8 runes. The first three runes are some of the most difficult in the Elder Futhark. Yet what follows them is something truly magical -- it shows the force of change and how quickly something can go from bad to good. The 8 runes of Hagal’s Aett deal with hardship, need, blockages, rewards, cycles, mysteries, protection, and light:

Tyr’s Aett is the third set of 8 runes in the Elder Futhark. These runes deal with things like victory, birth, loyalty, humanity, the mind, pleasure, hope, and heritage. Many of these runes deal with aspects of human nature and being grounded here on this planet.

What is helpful with the Elder Futhark Runes is that the meanings are relatively simple. Each rune conveys a concept or feeling that was prevalent thousands of years ago and still remains relevant today (for the most part). Secondly, it is a very abbreviated system with only 24 symbols.

The Elder Futhark Runes are the oldest runic alphabet and one of the most widely used today. The Elder Futhark Runes were adapted from an alphabet, so the first 6 runes in the system spell out the letters F-U-TH-A-R-K.

F is represented by Fehu, U by Uruz, TH by Thurisaz, A by Ansuz, R by Raidho, and K by Kenaz. Below you will see the runic alphabet applied to modern-day English.

In the Elder Futhark system, you’ll note that many of the runes are based on simple concepts --cattle, harvest, hail, dawn, water, etc. But each of these runes also has a much deeper meaning. Much like Tarot and other systems of divination, we use these base meanings to extrapolate deeper into our own subconscious. Water is often attributed to the mind and the ebb and flow of intuition, and this is true with runes as well. This system of symbols is comprised of some of the most important aspects of Nordic life thousands of years ago.

Like the other Green Glyphs decks (with the exception of the Oracle deck), color plays a big part in this rune deck and can add an extra layer of understanding to your readings. The cards are color-coded with reds and oranges signifying misfortune and yellows and golds signifying good fortune and positivity, Greens and blues are used as neutral colors.

Let’s compare the two different rune cards above. You’ll notice that Sowilo, the sun rune with no reversed meaning, is solely comprised of golds and yellows. It’s a very positive card and always good to have in a reading. Alternatively, Thurisaz is a more complicated card. While it does have a hint of gold, it is predominantly orange, signifying a rune with some difficulties. Thurisaz is about disruption, judgment, and pain. Yet it is from these things that we grow into who we are. At the heart of the thorn is Thor’s hammer -- Mjölnir, colored with gold. This suggests that we have the power to protect ourselves from these events. From this example, you can see that there are a lot of intricacies to these cards, even though they may seem visually clean and bold.

And that's a little sneak peek at the Green Glyphs Runes deck!

We're Funded!!! Stretch Goals?
over 1 year ago – Mon, Oct 03, 2022 at 05:19:21 PM

I didn’t think we’d be here already. I am once again blown away by the support and I’m SO excited that this project is going to become a reality.

THANK YOU AGAIN.

Before I announce stretch goals it has been my tradition to reach out to all of you and get your input early on since that's what makes Kickstarter so great. In the past, I have found that projects have evolved beyond what I ever planned thanks to backers. So.. what would YOU like to see as stretch goals?

I have some plans up my sleeve, but before I announce them I want to hear from you first :)
